Three of us saw the following when we were at the sand beach at P-N-P
in Hansvile, North Kitsap this past Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. for a
half hour:

1 Red-necked Grebe juvenile (still had stripes on its head and neck -
seemed strange that it wasn't yet into its winter plumage - must have
been a late hatcher!)

1 Horned Grebe

4 Common Loons in winter plumage

Dbl-crested Cormorants galore ( maybe a Pelagic or 2 mixed in, but I
we didn't look too closely as we were trying to take better looks at
the grebes and loons, which were very busy with their fishing and kept
diving just as we got the scope on them)

3 Surf Scoters

2 Bald Eagles fishing and perching in tall Douglas firs

Gull spp (sorry, no time taken for ID's)

A possible tern

6 other humans accompanying their dogs for a walk down the beach - no
dog poop noticed and the dogs were well-mannered, as were the
humans! :-)

1 volunteer, taking away the trash from several garbage cans

-----------------

That is a nice little beach, but we were wondering where the general
public can park once the 4 available public parking spots are used
up? Also, does the beach go beyond the lighthouse?

The rest of our day was spent looking at plants at various nurseries
over there (Dragonfly, Savage Plants, Bainbridge Gardens) and walking
around a fairly birdless Bloedel Reserve, even though it wasn't
raining. We topped off the day with a fantastic Thai dinner at
Sawatdy near Bainbridge Gardens.

Photos from the day were mostly of the fantastic foliage, which tended
to stay put more than the birds!

We didn't have time to go to the nice little Nature Conservancy
Reserve near Hansville - usually a good place for both woods, shore
and seabirds. Anyone been there recently? There used to be Ospreys
and a nest or 2 there...
