Hello Tweets,

I birded Capitol lake for a bit this evening. I viewed from the second bench south of the boat launch dock on the south end of the lake a Western/Clark's type grebe from around 4:30 until near 5 pm. Without my scope I am not confident enough to rule out a hybrid individual, but I am nearly certain the bird was not a Western Grebe. This bird clearly had a deep yellow bill and clean white under at least the lower half of its eyes. It appeared quite dusky above and in front of the eye.

I will be back on Sunday with my Black Hills Audubon field trip, and my scope.

If you are in the area, probably worth checking out tomorrow.

Good Birding,
Matt
