One can walk about 3.7 miles south along the beach to a public boat launch and parking area. Folks with two cars can park at each end of the beach and exchange keys at the half way point. Watch the tides. It doesn't take too much of a high tide to render this rout impassable without getting your feet wet. Take care to secure your car and hide valuables.
Getting to the boat launch park
>From the Hansville Hwy., turn east on the Eglon Road and follow it to a T intersection. Turn right (it's either Plot Point Rd or Eglon Rd NE but it's at the T) and follow it to the beach where you will see the parking lot. The total distance from the Hansville Road to the launching area is about 1.5 miles.
BTW, the boat launch area is often productive for shore birds, even at night. I was there one midnight a couple years ago when the tide was out about 100 feet from the parking area. There were shore birds doing their thing up and down the beach when something spooked them and they all took to wing. After the commotion I noted an owl, probably a Barred, standing on a hapless peep at the waters edge. It picked at it's victim a couple times before hauling it off to the woods a bit north of the boat ramp. At the time I didn't have my bins so couldn't get any kind of ID.
