Tweeters,

My teenage son Ira and I went down to Ocean Shores Sun/Mon, mostly aiming
for the female King Eider, which we did see. We found it Monday 8/31 at high
tide off the beach at the lagoon S of the Game Range.. It was just inside
the rocks that mark the outside edge of the lagoon, among some Surf Scoters.
Here are some other highlights:

- Grays Harbor NWR: Osprey, Semipalmated Plovers (3), Brown Pelicans,
Western Sandpipers (many 100's), a Peregrine Falcon, a Northern Harrier,
Greater Yellowlegs (3)
- Hoquiam Sewage Pond: Ruddy duck, Red-necked Phalarope
- North Jetty: a Pacific Loon, Common Murres (10), a Wandering Tattler
- Beach at SW end of Game Range: Surf Scoter, Red-necked Grebe
- Beach at SE end Game Range: King Eider, Surf Scoters, a Common Loon
- Driftwood St. Beach: Sanderlings (30), and a Common Murre
- Nisqually: Peregrine Falcon, Western Wood Pewee, Red-tailed Hawk

At the night time high tide, we were able to watch hundreds of peeps flying
W over our Ocean Shores hotel (Shilo Inn) to the ocean beach. This was due
to the usually annoying bright spotlights that shine onto the beach from
this hotel (and others).

In addition to our tattered ABA Washington Birdfinding Guide (aka 'Hal',
just like in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey), and a current realtor map, we
found the Grays Harbor Audubon Map of Local Birding Spots to be quite
helpful: http://www.ghas.org/oceanshores.php#gr
