Bumper crop of both Black-capped and Chestnut-backed Chickadees, maybe the best nesting success I've seen here in 10 years. There seems to be an increase in local nesting Barn Swallow population; that's good news as the numbers had fallen here at least 90% over the decade. I've seen more Warbling Vireos. In past few days, both Yellow Warblers and Wilson's Warblers have been tracking through the canopy. Bewick's Wrens have gotten scarcer here over the past 2 years.....maybe too many house cats left out at our condo community. A Townsend's Warbler has come to my feeder in the past week; seems early. Past winter for the very first time in 10 years, Townsend's Warblers (3 of 'em) fed at my suet feeder from Jan through late March, 2009. I've had Rufous hummers at my syrup feeder since July; now chasing both Anna's hummers and chickadees. Have seen for the first time, chickadees trying for
sugar water. Will have to look this up; has anyone else ever had chickadees at their hummer feeders?
All be well, Maureen Ellis, Burien, WA
