Tweets,

Today 17 of us enjoyed a quiet walk at Nisqually under cool and foggy
conditions. The birds didn't think much of the weather either.

The best birds of the day occurred at the start and at the end of the
walk. We had 2 AMERICAN BITTERN on the pond behind the visitor center at the
start of the walk. We also had 3 RIVER OTTERS there, a GREAT BLUE HERON,
MALLARDS, WOOD DUCK, BARN. CLIFF and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, COMMON
YELLOWTHROAT, and SONG SPARROW there.

It was pretty quiet on the way out to the twin barns but we did see
NORTHERN HARRIER, RED-TAILED HAWK, COOPERS HAWK, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, WILLOW
FLYCATCHER, and ROCK PIGEON there. Lots of construction equipment in the
area so lots of noise.

It was quiet along the boardwalk on the Nisqually River side until we got
to the woodland trail. There we hit the jackpot with several BROWN
CREEPER, both BLACK-CAPPED and CHESTNUT-SIDED CHICKADEE, WILSON'S WARBLER,
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, and DOWNEY WOODPECKER. Made the whole morning
worthwhile.

All told we saw 40 species with nothing new for the year.

Mammals seen were RIVER OTTER and EASTERN GRAY SQUIRREL.

Until next week....
