Just had a MERLIN fly past my window and land in a pine tree across the
street. This was at 12;15 pm, while working on my computer. It sat there
long enough for me to get my binoculars and confirm the initial I.D. - We do
have at least two MERLINS in Twin Lakes every winter. I have had a couple of
June sightings, but not this summer.
Yesterday I had three woodpeckers in my yard: RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER,
PILEATED WOODPECKER and NORTHERN FLICKER. A GREAT HORNED OWL has been seen
twice over the last week at Treasure Island Park. They likely Nest at Dash
Point Park, but sightings in Twin Lakes are sporadic.
Good Holiday Birding!
