It started out slow at Edmonds Marsh this morning. A couple of
Killdeer, a number of Great Blue Herons, Mallards, Black-capped
Chickadees and Bushtits. But a few Gadwall and a number of Green-
winged Teal hens were back. It was a nice mix of mud and standing
water this morning and with the clearing after the rain, we hoped for
something better. Finally four shorebirds flew in, two Least and two
Western Sandpipers. One of the Leasts had a gimpy leg and was
hopping about. I guess that was interesting. There was a large
flock of migrating Barns Swallows moving through. Just as were were
about to leave we noticed several large peeps flying among the Barn
Swallows, swirling about, looking as if they would land but just
wouldn't quite do it. One finally settled down on the mud with two
Westerns. We got it in the scope and it was a great look at a
Baird's just standing there and being quiet for a moment. Then they
flew off. this was at 9:30 a.m.

Good birding,
