Today, Barry Woodruff and I scouted Silver Star Mountain (on the Clark/Skamania County border) for the upcoming WOS Conference. It was a gorgeous day but we saw very few birds. The best species seen on the mountain was a NORTHERN GOSHAWK, but to stand on the summit surrounded by Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood, Mt. Jefferson and the Three Sisters in Oregon with dozens of Vaux's Swifts passing by within three feet of our heads was fantastic. After we descended the mountain and drove into Yacolt to check for MONK PARAKEETS and found none at the nest site but we did locate eight in the center of town by driving with the windows down and listening for the calls.
