Subject: [Tweeters] Edmonds: Red-necked Phalaropes on the Sound

Hi Tweets,

There are lots and lots of gulls on the Sound this morning, mostly
Bonaparte's (good numbers), Heermann's, and Glaucous-winged. While I
was scoping them from the Edmonds public pier I noticed twenty Red-
necked Phalaropes among them. There was one Rhinoceros Auklet and a
Marbled Murrelet in basic plumage. Also around the waterfront were
Double-crested and Pelagic Cormorants in very low numbers. Since the
oil dock was removed last year we will probably see lower cormorant
numbers as it provided plentiful perching habitat. The Western
Grebes and Surf Scoters that I saw the other morning were not present
today. The shorebirds in the Marsh this morning were Least
Sandpipers along with one Western. The dowitcher continues for the
third day. Barn Swallows continue around the Marsh and the waterfront.
