Mike Denny makes a good suggestion for communicating sightings. The ABA suggested channels for birders nationwide is channel 11 - privacy channel 22. I have been places like High Island, Texas where a dozen birders were sharing sightings and alerting others to "good" species from every corner of the woods. If everyone birds on the same channel we can actually communicate our sightings in real time. The Ridgefield NWR is a great spot to use these radios since you can not get out of your vehicle between Oct. 1 and May 1.
