One other thing: we saw a female Northern Shoveler quarry for food in small, tight circles on the water. She paddled while feeding in a predominantly counter-clockwise fashion, but reversed herself from time to time... As this circle was about 2-3 feet square, is this normal, or ? She didn't seem to be under physical duress that we could see; she just didn't seem to be interested in feeding in anything approaching a linear fashion, or for that matter, outside of her box...
