Tweeters,

On Saturday evening (5:44PM), my wife and I decided to return home by
heading through Fort Lewis and stopping off at the Muck Creek Bridge. Not
much there (VIOLET-GREEN, CLIFF, and BARN SWALLOWS), but as we cut through
the south part of Training Area 6 toward Brandenburg Marsh, my wife asked me
to ID the "large birds flying over there." The birds were three SANDHILL
CRANES, gliding just over the trees to the north of us toward the 91st
Division Prairie to the west. We didn't see them set down (too far to sprint
back to get to a point to see them again), but they definitely were angling
downward. These were the first Sandhill Cranes I've seen at Fort Lewis in
over 30 years of birding there.

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis
