Hello all,
Today MerryLynn and I birded the Walla Walla River delta, Tyson ponds, Dodd
road "blood ponds", Penninsula HMU and Hood Park. A beautiful day with a
couple new county yearbirds:
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER - 2 birds in the second "blood pond" on Dodd Road
just past the Tyson Slaughterhouse.
SANDERLING - 1 bird
Pectoral Sandpiper - 10
Long-billed Dowitcher - 35
Baird's Sandpiper - 3
Least Sandpiper - 2
Killdeer - 102

Tyson Ponds: (the large pond is really mucky again, covered with
oil/rendered grease/suds - not good for birds!)
Red-necked Phalarope - 21
Greater Yellowlegs - 1
Killdeer - 4

Delta: high water in the am then some mud in the pm
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER - 1
Stilt Sandpiper - 2
Wilson's Snipe - 2
Western Sandpiper - 2
Killdeer - 9
Franklin's Gull - 1
Bonaparte's Gull - 2
Herring Gull - 7
Great Egret - 11 birds
and of course the usual RB and CA Gulls, Mallard and N. Pintail - and the
coots are starting to gather.

Hood Park:
MEW GULL - 1 subadult bird
Hammond's Flycatcher - 1
Orange-crowned Warbler - 3
Western Tanager - 2
Lincoln's Sparrow - 3
WC Sparrow - 300+
YR Warbler - 100+

Penninsula HMU - in the afternoon - not much but 6 Virginia Rail that
responded to clapping and 1 Cooper's Hawk looking over the WCrowns.
We thank Aaron Skirvin and group from Pendleton for their Gray Partridge
sighting up Hatch Grade - first ones reported in WW County this year!
