That location, along with neighboring Winchester Peak lookout, has long been noted as a hawk migrating route in the late summer/early fall.

Subject: [Tweeters] Rough-legged Hawks at Yellow Aster Butte?

We saw some light colored hawks on a hike up Yellow Aster Butte near ?
Mt. Baker) a week and a half ago. The calls sounded like rough legged ?
hawks. There seemed to be one main one and two or three others calling ?
to each other. My guess is that it was a parent and young. The books ?
say that they wouldn't necessarily ?be migrating through that early, ?
but it certainly seems that that is what they were. What do you think?
