Hi,

We had an interesting incident occur in our yard today. A juvenile male
Cooper's Hawk flew through our yard and did not get a bird, but in the
scattering of birds, a Mourning Dove hit a window and died. I decided to
put the dove in the yard and see if the hawk would return and get the bird.
I was gone from 11-12:30 and when I returned the bird had been taken to a
little more secluded area about 10 feet from where I left it and had been
completely consumed. I am assuming that the Cooper's Hawk is the bird that
ate the Mourning Dove. I found this pretty interesting in that I thought
that birds that killed birds for food, only took birds that they had killed,
not already dead birds. I am saying juvenile male Cooper's Hawk on size
and plumage and I was able to see the bird perched in a tree shortly after
the fly by.

Any comments on similar observations appreciated.
