hello everyone,

since the rapture didn't happen today as predicted, i managed to complete birds in the news for your reading pleasure. along with a bunch of news articles from around the world about birds, this issue of BitN features a lovely image of the critically endangered fiji petrel;

today's mystery bird is a north american species that seems easy to ID, but the angle of the image provides us with a bit of a challenge;

as a bonus, can you make a guess as to what that bird is doing?

the most recently demystified mystery bird was a Scarlet Honeyeater, Myzomela sanguinolenta, which generated some interesting commentary. this bird is endemic to Australia, and the image is courtesy of photographer steve duncan;

this is an interesting video clip about the scientists who study the songs produced by blue whales in an attempt to uncover their "hidden meaning" (i'll bet we all know what that "hidden meaning" is!);

a friend of mine, who goes by the name of digital cuttlefish, has been generous and inspirational with his support of my bid for antarctica. he has written several pieces that you will really enjoy reading, regardless of what you think of me or antarctica;
