Subject: [Tweeters] Bainbridge Island today

As my ferry reached Bainbridge this a.m., I noticed some shorebirds flying beside and past the ferry that looked a lot like Black Turnstones. On the return trip this afternoon I was able to spot a group of them on the shore northeast of the ferry dock.

While kayaking around Eagle Harbor this a.m., we saw numerous flocks of Cormorants (Double-Crested, I believe) flying overhead in lines. They are on the move, I guess. Lots of them in the water, too.

The largest and noisiest group of birds, oddly enough, were Killdeer--LOTS of them enjoying the mud banks in the furthest reaches of Eagle Harbor. A number of them got fairly riled (it seemed) when we kayaked past one area. They flew circles around us, calling loudly. Don't know what that was about. Surely they wouldn't be protecting nests at this late date...?

Also saw one female Hooded Merganser and 2 Pigeon Guillemots.

A nice day!
