Tweets, Thursday at 10:15am 26 TURKEY VULTURES drifted southward over my
house in Tenino. They were packed tighter than any kettle I've seen, and the
flight trajectory was straight/direct with no circling. A single, pale
first-year GR WHITE-FR GOOSE was resting/feeding at the high school baseball
field; though a bit lethargic it did not appear to be injured. 8-10 years
ago a single white-fronted type goose spent a day in a corner of the grade
school soccer field, also in surprising proximity to considerable human
activity. This individual was considerably smaller as I recall, but since I
was out there coaching I was not in fieldnote-taking mode. An interesting
mix of fall passerines the last couple days: WARBLEING, B-T GRAY and
ORANGE-CR WARBLER, and the first arrival of moving YELLOW-RUMPTED WARBLERS.
Bob Sundstrom reports an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD(unusual this far inland) at his
feeders, possibly the same individual that visited this time last year. Good
birding!
