Hi Tweeters,

In case this sighting is of interest to those who keep track of Peregrine
Falcons in the greater Seattle area.

This past Sunday while at Redondo Beach (Puget Sound, S. King Co.), Ollie
and I observed an immature Peregrine Falcon with a successful prey bird,
which looked like a dark Rock Pigeon. Apparently the falcon had just
snagged the bird because gulls were chasing it and protesting loudly. The
falcon landed high up in a Douglas Fir and kept watch for protesting crows
that burst out of the tree to continue the protest. It was nervous and kept
looking about. However, after about 3 minutes, the crows slacked up their
mobbing, and the falcon started eating. The falcon looks gorgeous.

There are certainly a lot of Rock Pigeons in this area; so it may be part of
this falcon's current territory. We counted 92 Rock Pigeons on Sunday.

Two weeks prior while at the same location; we saw an immature Peregrine
Falcon try numerous times to capture a Rock Pigeon; but failing.

We were able to scope the falcon both times because it perched not too far
off in a tree and we had the scope. We don't see a tag on this bird. It
was very nice to see it successfully capturing food this time. Can't swear
it is the same falcon; but markings are very similar; and both birds were
immature.
