With all this stormy weather we've been having, you can never be too surprised when something different ends up in your backyard. But the element of surprise is still there!
At first light this morning, I was on the east side of Lake Whatcom listening for Barred Owls when I observed a half-dozen Fork-tailed Storm Petrels just a few meters from the lakeshore. They appeared to be resting.
