April Fools Day saw me?parking?my pickup?at the underwater dive park located just north of the ferry dock and walking the beach north from there. One of the eagles, which had been perching in its regular spot in the tall trees at the north end of Sunset Ave., flew south past me and landed behind me on the beach near the restrooms at the dive park.?

I started snapping photos so fast that?I had to?pause for the camera to "catch up" with processing the data.? ??The eagle picked a fish off the beach (probably stolen from a gull) and flew back north over the water with gulls in chase, all the while trying to eat the fish on the fly.? I had never seen an eagle do that before.? Apparently in-flight meals are not easy for an eagle, as it?executed a 180,?returned to where it had found the fish, and finished eating it on the beach.

I moved slowly back toward the eagle, snapping photos as I walked, then stopped when I thought?any closer might disturb it.??One?photo showed a?crow?tip-toeing up to the eagle in the hopes of retreiving a scrap of food without?becoming?its second course.
