Subject: [Tweeters] Corvid info please

I have a few questions about corvids in general and some specific on Jays
(both Stellar and Scrub).

How good are their vision and hearing?

Secondly, crows seem not to mind the jays (well, they are much bigger and
more aggressive - I notice that the Stellars get intimidated if more than a
few crows and while there will just watch and not try to get peanuts, etc.)
and jays are in the crows territory. However, we have colonies of Stellar
and Scrub Jays here on Queen Anne for years and they will not go into each
others territory. They'll go within 1-2 blocks and that's it. Any one else
notice this or have an opinion on why? The Stellars seem to have a larger
territory; however, there seems to be more Stellars. Could that be it?

I've been feeding the Stellars and crows for several months and they know me
by voice. However, walking through the scrub jay territory yesterday - they
also knew my voice (I live about 5-7 blocks from them) and came immediately
for peanuts (and followed by the crows). Anyone had any experience with a
different crovid species knowing them when they shouldn't (I rarely walk in
that area - and had been 3-4 years since I'd seen one as so rarely in that
area). Seems like the crows in Wallingford know me too, but not lower QA or
other places I'm go to occasionally. Don't know why the Wallingford crows
know me; however, I've had crows in 2 different places (about 1 mile or more
distant from each other) in Wallingford seem to know who I am.
