Another book about Steller that you may want to check out is "Where the Sea Breaks Its Back: The Epic Story of Early Naturalist Georg Steller and the Russian Exploration of Alaska" by Corey Ford.

And speaking of bird books, I don't think it's been mentioned on Tweeters yet that the movie version of "The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature, and Fowl Obsession" is scheduled to begin production in May with Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson starring. It's a comedy, and Ben Stiller is one of the producers. I'm excited to see what they do with it (I think "Anchorman", "Zoolander", and "Dodgeball" are cinematic masterpieces), though I hope they don't rely too much on birder stereotypes for laughs. A scene involving a wild helicopter ride looking for snowcocks is probably mandatory.
