Dear Tweeters,

Some of the birds I saw on my trip to southern and eastern WA last week might be good ones to note, especially for those keeping track of county cumulative lists for the year. On some of these, they might not be that rare, but anyway, I think these are all code 3 or four birds, so here goes.

Klickitat County:
--one or two SNOW GEESE at Conboy Lk NWR on 3-30-2010.

Benton County:
--a pair of RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS on 3-31-2010 at Crow Butte State Park.

--a BLACK-NECKED STILT on 3-30-2010 at the Whitcomb Unit of Umatilla NWR; another, or perhaps the same BLACK-NECKED STILT, at Crow Butte State Park on 3-31-2010.

--a pair of ROCK WRENS at the summit of Crow Butte on 3-31-2010.

--a LINCOLN'S SPARROW AND a FOX SPARROW on 3-31-2010 at Two Rivers County Park.


Walla Walla County--two GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS in brush at the Headquarters Unit of McNary NWR on 4-01-2010. Also, one early BANK SWALLOW was there with the Tree Swallows that morning. I am sure the Dennys would have seen these birds, but no doubt they were at their Pullo Leggo property at the time, judging by their recent postings.

Columbia County: --two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS at Lewis and Clark State Park on 4-01-2010 and 4-02-2010. There was also a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL calling there in the wee hours of 4-02-2010.
