Hi Tweets...this is late as I didn't think anyone was interested. The Ocean
Shores Osprey has returned...first saw it on the cell tower (where its nest
remains despite high wind over the past year) on April 6th. I also saw one
near the Hoquiam STP the same day. This Hoquiam bird bears watching as the
light tower it used for nesting is now gone...whether by high wind or
"someone" knocking it over is not known.

The City of Hoquiam has placed a pole with a platform on the extreme NW
corner of the STP property...no interest has been shown so far. Instead, the
one Osprey I have seen is attempting to build a nest on the next light
standard north of the former nest pole. Most of the first sticks were blown
off or dropped to the ground, but when I drove by today it looked as though
perseverance has paid off as sticks are beginning to accumulate on the
crossbars. This power pole is still on Port of Grays Harbor property, and
the port remains at best indifferent to these birds.

There are actually two pairs of Osprey; the other pair had a nest inside the
Anderson-Middleton property at the top of 8th St in Hoquiam. That nest was
on a power pole which was deliberately removed...with either an egg or a
young bird unable to fly. Because we had no proof, it wasn't pursued.

That pair then built a nest atop a power pole on Port property, where a
chipping process is now; shortly after the youngster fledged the pole was
mysteriously knocked over. I am hoping that pair find a more friendly spot,
assuming they are not the ones attempting to build the new nest along
Paulson Rd.

So that's the story on the GH Osprey....high drama!
