Yesterday my wife and I decided to walk to the tip of Damon Point. Little did I realize that soon the name may be Damon Island. There is a high tide cut-off channel that prevented our venturing out onto the point. Instead we choose to walk the shoreline to just short of the sewage treatment ponds. The changes to this area in recent years are quite interesting, a great place to go if one has an interest is coastal zone geomorphology (almost as amazing as Washaway Beach). But I digress, sorry. The birds...



The long-staying female King Eider was present with Surf Scoters close in at the first group of pilings and rocks closest to the Damon Point parking area. This was around high tide. Out in the channel we observed a group of 50 or so Common Terns. Shorebird numbers are picking up as well. We observed 6 species in passsing without really spending any time seaching for them. Marbled Godwits (20+) were on the golf course, the rest were flybys in the game range area. We did not check the jetty to see what might be offshore or on the rocks.
