Subject: [Tweeters] Merlin and Douglas Squirrel

This morning my wife and I were having our coffee and throwing peanuts out
the window to one of our resident "squeakies" aka Douglas squirrels, who
dutifully runs them across the yard and stashes them at the edge of the
woods where all the jays and grey squirrels are waiting, hehe. On one of
his trips across the lawn there was a flash and a Merlin came in low and
fast -- I thought it was a really fast Steller's jay at first but it made a
second pass and I saw the long, thin pointy wings and banded tail. It was
very dark slate colored. The squirrel which is a speed demon in it's own
right would have had no chance, but the bird pulled up at the last second
and it was spared. Exciting!
