Watching a Great Blue Heron hunt for sticks and branches for his nest
is, for birders, like watching the Wide World of Avian Sports: a show
filled with the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

So begins my blogpost about a lovely Sunday spent photographing the herons in stick-laying mode south of Drumheller Fountain. It looks like there are four nests in the stand of trees to the southwest and two nests in a smaller stand of trees to the southeast, adjacent to the Paul Allen building. I could be wrong, but I think these two are new, or more recent, nests than the southwest ones. They were smaller and only one was occupied by a bird during the hour or so I watched.
