It is always nice to observe and welcome the returning birds to the yard as well as to see the locals put on their best clothes and begin courting. This last week or so I've seen returning Orange-crowned Warbler, Chipping Sparrow and Purple Finch. The Rufous Hummers are here in numbers now and for the first time They seem to be tolerating each other as well as the Anna' Hummingbirds. I have at least two pair of each sharing 4 feeders.

A Bewick's Wren broke out in song while I was taking pictures yesterday. Such pure joy! The Spotted Towhee's are proud as peacocks and the finches are singing steady. The White-crowned Sparrows are back in the yard and bizzeee as they can be. The Fox Sparrows and the Golden-crowned Sparrows are here later than usual this year. Maybe they'll stay this year. The Violet-green Swallows are looking the nest box over. My pond isn't big enough for nesting ducks but that doesn't stop a pair of Mallards from decimating my scratch feed.

Soon the tanagers, grosbeaks, flycatchers and more warblers. I might not leave home all year.
