Hey tweets, I was out at the Fill early this morning, while the sun
was still shining, then the fog rolled in, then the fog rolled out
again. It felt like going from spring to winter to summer, all in the
space of about 3 hours. The plants must have been confused, not to
mention the birds.

In the Sun One portion of the day, the Common Teal was floating
peacefully on Shoveler's Pond, in company with numerous paired-up
Green-winged Teals and other ducks. In the Fog portion of the day, a
pair of Cinnamon Teals burst out of the slough, circled the Southwest
Pond, and headed south. Not for the winter, I trust. In the Sun Two
portion of the day, a gorgeous male Northern Harrier floated high
overhead, heading north. I've never seen an adult male harrier at the
Fill before, so that was quite a thrill.

Two Cooper's Hawks were making a big racket in the swamps, so I didn't
bother to scope out woodland birds. I figured they'd be hunkered down,
invisible to the hawks and to me. However, my notes from years past
indicate that we should start keeping an eye out for thrushes, so I'll
be checking the woods often in the next several days.

Also on view today: A Brewer's Blackbird in Hunn Meadow West; Common
Yellowthroats in Kern's Restoration Pond area; a Lincoln's Sparrow and
a Golden-crowned in the same area; and a Brown-headed Cowbird there
too. A birder reported a California Quail at East Point yesterday. -
