There was a pair of Mountain Bluebirds in the 91st Division Prairie on JBLM (Fort Lewis) today. They were using a large concrete block wall to perch on and they'd occasionally drop to the ground to feed in and around Plantago. The male collected a very large larva that it thrashed against the wall several times to kill it. It took three attempts to eat it. They stayed around for a few hours before moving on. Also present were several Oregon Vesper Sparrows, Western Meadowlarks, and Savannah Sparrows, and all were busy singing with such a nice day. There were also many Violet Green Swallows, who nest very successfully every year in the cracks between large concrete blocks.
