fascinating place, JBP. i'm there for no more than two hours, manage to
find a diving kingfisher, get buzzed by osprey and cooper's hawk (while i
was watching aforementioned kingfisher), watch one of the resident muskrats
scare turtles off their warm log, follow an adult bald eagle to the osprey
pole, and accidentally scare what i think might be a baby weasel (at the
start of the western boardwalk)... even spotted an invader, a soft-shelled
turtle (inner cove, between the stub and the end of the western boardwalk),
hopefully not laying eggs...

also noted: an early fledgling bewick's wren, more red-winged blackbirds
than i've seen in a while (and in obvious hornitude), still a few
ring-necked ducks and bufflehead on the lake, jumping carp (more hornitude),
purple martins and tree swallows, and the drumming of a downy woodpecker...
i THINK i heard a common yellowthroat once, but there was no obvious
confirming chatter...

IF photos come out, and i'm honestly not expecting much, they'll be on the
website later tonight. it was simply an enjoyable and warm afternoon away
from deadlines and commitments :)
