Tweets - Based on the number of reports already on Tweeters, it seems that a
real wave of TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIREs moved through the Puget Sound over the
last couple of days. Friday, I had one in Port Ludlow around noon, and I
heard there were two near Port Hadlock earlier Friday.

Generally, I had good birding Friday and Saturday. ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERs
were everywhere, singing constantly.

At Oak Bay were a few DUNLIN and two DOWITCHER sp. At Fort Flagler, I had
both CLIFF SWALLOW and NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW. At the wetland along
East Marrowstone Rd., I had COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, VIRGINIA RAIL, and MOURNING
DOVE.

Saturday, I hiked up Mt. Walker. The road is still closed to vehicles for
the season, so I hiked up the road and down the trail.

Right at the start of the road, I had a HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER. A bit later,
some EVENING GROSBEAKs flew over. At the paved bridge with the guardrail (I
think there's only one spot like that), I had a booming SOOTY GROUSE who was
visible on the back side of a fir, at about eye level. A couple of hundred
yards further up, I had a NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL, calling away in plain sight -
no iPod needed.

Of course, the weather then went completely to pot, and I got soaking wet
and chilled.

Still, it was a really good visit.
