For several years we have had a family of CALIFORNIA QUAIL living
near here. Each year the family, with chicks, spends time on our patio
during the summer. During the winter we have been used to seeing both the
male and female out back. But this year, just the male was present. We
feared that the local coyote had done in mom. This spring, Cal would sing
away, all around the neighborhood, and we'd see him alone on the patio.
But this morning, there he was, with a beautiful female behind him. So
there is hope that we'll see another quail family this summer. All his
calling wasn't in vain. Isn't spring wonderful!
