Hello All,
It's not always easy finding shorebirds in Pierce County, so I was pleased to see a few on my way back from school today. In a wet, muddy field southwest of the intersection of Shaw Road and E Pioneer Ave. in Puyallup, there were 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 15 Least Sandpipers, and 7 Wilson's Snipe. I'll continue checking this spot as I suspect a Solitary Sand will probably show up in the next couple of weeks.

Here's a map of the viewing spot: http://tinyurl.com/y4g8r25

Also, along Pioneer Ave. east of this location about a mile, just after crossing the railroad tracks and the Foothills Trail, there is a small pond on the right. This spot has hosted a male "Eurasian" Green-winged Teal since at least 8 March. The bird is now paired with a female teal that looks larger and paler with heavier facial markings than the other 3 female Green-wings in the pond (each paired with a male "American" Green-winged). I suspect this female is also a Eurasian, but am not sure how confident one can be with this ID.

Finally, there are still quite a few Eurasian Collared-Doves in this area. The flock of 35+ has dispersed and they are now nesting in a number of neighborhoods in the Puyallup/Sumner area.
