This morning?s rain didn?t seem to curb the migrant activity
in my yard in south Seattle! Settling
the binocs on what I assumed would be another Orange-crowned Warbler, I instead
found the bright yellow belly and striking eyering of a Nashville Warbler. He spent about fifteen minutes happily
plucking insects from the blooms of one of the apple trees before moving on
with his entourage of chickadees and orange-crowns. Also in the yard today, a Hermit Thrush (fourth day,) a singing
Varied Thrush and five flyover Band-tailed Pigeons, which have been absent all
winter. The past week has been a busy
one for the yard list, which has grown by three, including the Nashville, a
majestic Great Horned Owl (which I hope is eating my squirrels,) and a two-day
visit by a pair of Townsend?s Solitaires.
So nice to have great birding without having to drive to it!
