Wanted to thank all of you who provided tips on the parking permit. Easily purchased at Fred Meyer in Ballard for $14.

And put to good use yesterday at the Heart Lake fishing access in Skagit County. The trout opener there was great, the boys & friend limited out as I rowed and managed tackle. We enjoyed close-up views of OSPREY and BALD EAGLE successfully fishing also.

No great shakes but at least two not-early arrival PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS were audible in heavy forest bordering the lake. More typical species heard/seen included 2 Wood Ducks, Gr. Yellowlegs, 4 regular warbler sp, Red Crossbill. Also of interest--while seeking extra bait near north end of lake--encounters with a NORTHWESTERN SALAMANDER and two ENSATINAS (Oregon Salamander) below forest-floor debris, the first in a distinct burrow/cavity situation. Very entertaining for all.
