On Monday, April 26, Portland Audubon had a trip to Nisqually NWR (just north of Olympia, WA). Five people enjoyed a wonderful four hours of quiet overcast skies and woods dripping with Yellow-rumped Warblers (both Audubon's and Myrtle) before the rain squalls hit. This is a wonderful destination with extensive handicap-accessible boardwalk through the woods and leading to the dike.
?
Highlight of the day was when trip leader Sarah heard an AMERICAN BITTERN nearby. It was finally spotted extremely close, just off the boardwalk, and we all got great views as it stalked and ate a couple of little tidbits. We also saw the largest Western Pond Turtle anyone could remember finding.
