Hi Tweets...it is the eve of the Grays Harbor Shorebird Festival, and I have
butterflies as usual, but I CAN report the birds arrived on time as hoped.
Refuge biologists now have three postings with totals of birds seen at
www.shorebirdfestival.com Shorebird Sightings. It's beginning to look as
though the weather will be typical of spring in the PNW, showers and
rainbows.

I finally saw my first Bar-tailed Godwit on the golf course here in Ocean
Shores on Tuesday the 27th...finally. It was grazing the big ditch behind
the Ocean Shores Cinema, along with several hundred Marbled Godwits, several
thousands of Dunlin, Western and Least Sandpipers, Black-bellied Plovers,
and a few Semipalmated Plovers. A nice pond had formed in the middle of the
grass and all were enjoying that fresh water.

I also heard from Lake Quinault trip co-leader Mary O'Neil that a forest
service biologist has a Lazuli Bunting at her feeder on the South Shore in
Quinault, with photos, verified by Bill Shelmerdine. You can bet that went
onto my county list!

We still have openings for lectures and field trips; the only ones closed
are Coastal Raptors and the cancelled Saturday Westport trip. And our
Keynote Speaker, Craig Lee, will be joined by the Executive Director of
Panama Audubon Society, Rosabel Miro. Two for the price of one, AND a
dessert reception!

So come out and see the birds! The show is beginning and you won't want to
miss it.
