Subject: [Tweeters] Great Egret: is NA American one the same as African?

Looking at the Latin names of Great Egret in North American field guides and the Birds of East Africa, I see Great Egret is Ardea alba in the former and Casmerodius albus in the latter. I thought they were the same species but this makes it look like they're two different species? What's up here?
