I had a profitable lunch today, with two new yard birds in under ten
minutes. The first was a black-throated gray warbler that popped out of a
young tree to perch briefly on the deck railing. It was an immature bird,
paler grey on the back and with a yellowish wash below. Then a little more
mundanely, a pair of cedar waxwings dodged our many fir trees to stop and
feed in one of the few deciduous varieties.



Half an hour after that, I've just had a Pacific-slope Flycatcher appear in
my maple tree.



Migration seems to be well underway, and clearly I should spend more time
sitting on my sofa!
