Stopped at the Hatton Coulee rest area on the way to Pullman today.
While waiting for the rest of my family to finish their potty break I
wandered over to one of the trees to see if there was any action. The
first bird I saw was a male American Redstart about 6 ft over my head
fanning his tail. I watched him for a few minutes while he was joined
by about 6 Wilson's warblers. I then noticed a female Northern Oriole a
little bit higher in the tree. Leaving the rest area, looked in the
small pond and could see quite a few shorebirds but could only identify
Avocets, BN Stilts and a Spotted Sandpiper in flight among the throng
there since I didnt bring any binos. I plan on stopping again on the
way home.
