Well, three times is the charm. I missed them last Saturday and Tuesday, but I finally got 3 BLACK SWIFTS today in Packwood. Thanks to John Puschock for posting last week and Tom for his input. Unlike John and Tom who had them at the intersection of Craig, Fawn, and Canon Rd., I drove a little further down Canon Rd., (just over a 1/2 mile), to a cemetery on the left. The area is more open and I was successful in finding the swifts. I arrived at 12:30pm, and had 1 BLACK SWIFT fly over within 5 minutes, but then I had to wait about 15 minutes for them to return. Three were seen flying and gliding to the south, across the road. Many Violet-green Swallows were also present, but the swifts stood out with their alternate wing beats and long straight out wings during their gliding.
