Don't forget the great flock of Wedge-tailed Shearwaters that come into their nests near the Lighthouse just before dusk.

If you are lucky enough to see a native Hawaiian land bird, don't forget that they're disappearing.? While we've spent enourmous efforts to "save" barely ID'able sub-species -- Mt. Graham squirrels, Cal Gnatcatcher etc., we've let an entire Hawiian avifauna collapse.? When I first visited Hawaii in 1970, Iiwi & Apapane were common, now you'll be lucky to see one.

North side....Kilauea Point NWR!
An all-time favorite of mine. I've spent hours/days at the?lighthouse there, watching Laysan Albatrosses, Great Frigatebirds,?boobies, tropicbirds, etc., riding the thermals up-close and personal. It's considered to?be one of the "premier birding spots in Hawai'i." Many seabirds nest on the cliffs in the area and hikes up to Crater Hill will certainly add to the thrill of being there!

Congrats and....aloha!

Tweeters,
?
I will be on my honeymoon in September and have convinced my fiance that birding is great in Hawaii. We will be on the Southern side of the island of Kauai and would prefer not to island hop (unless it's to Molokai). Any advice, places to go, or people to contact about where to go and what to see?
?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
?
?
Thanks,
?
