Dear Tweeters,

Might someone in Tweeterland be able to help me with an AviSys problem?
I sent a query to Jerry Blinn, the man behind AviSys, but I really do not understand his answer. As a "customer" or "consumer," I am on the whole quite satisfied with AviSys, and have recommended it many times. However, on the occasions when I run a problem by Jerry, the response is sometimes way over my head, as I am not a tech person and have no desire to become one.

Dear Jerry,

I did the split of the Black Scoter and the Winter Wren. Yipee, three more world birds on my list!

So far there is no major problem as far as AviSys goes, but I can't figure out how to edit the band codes. I cannot locate the place where I would go in and do this editing.

I know that I will not be able to call Pacific Wren PAWR, unless I change Paramo Wren to something else. I think I will be fine calling Common Scoter COSC, since I see no collision there, but I probably won't bother dealing with the European Wryneck-European Wren collision. It will probably be a while before I see either the Wryneck or the Euro Wren again, anyway.

However, as you know, we Washington State birders see (and hear) a lot of Pacific Wrens, and I really want to get a band code going for that species. How exactly do I edit the band codes?

Oh, and by the way, an intriguing thing popped up as I was looking around at the various AviSys files. There are some video clips in there--but I cannot get them to play. Are they something I might enjoy watching? If so, how do I get them to play?

Utilities | Create World Band Code Files will update the World band codes. The NA band codes will not be updated to include the Pacific Wren, etc. --- if you wish, you can edit BANDCODE.AVI in C:\AVI6, in Notepad. Note that you may have to also edit BANDSEL.AVI -- the scheme should be clear to you.
