Today I spent several hours sitting on the north bank of the Columbia River about a quarter mile east of the I-5 Bridge in Clark County, WA. I was watching the flock of scoters that have been on the Oregon side of the river waiting for some to cross that imaginary line separating Oregon from Washington. There was one female SURF SCOTER that stayed on the Washington side and was finally joined by one of the WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS when a boat flushed the flock that was near the entrance to the marina. The White-winged was a new Clark County bird for me. I could see a large number of WESTERN GREBES on the south side of the Columbia but there were only two along the north shore. Wilson Cady
