In response to Kristi Hein?s query about Washington flickers, I can add that of
the group (at least 9) I see regularly here at home in Seattle, two are apparent
intergrades.? One male has pale, orangey underwings and a blurry red chevron on
the nape, though his moustachial stripe is pure red and his cheeks are mostly
gray.? One female has the gray cheeks, and no hint of red on the nape, but pure
yellow underwings.? The other 7 appear to be ?pure? red-shafted, but nonracist,
as they sometimes forage together in the grass out back as a ?family.?
