I tried for the Rough-legged Hawk on Sunday that Roger Moyer had seen, but did not find it after giving the area a good search. However, this morning around 9:00am, I found the ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK sitting in a tree snag to the left of the hunting ponds at Pleasant Valley. I watched the hawk for at least 15 minutes before it was flushed away by a young BALD EAGLE which scared everything in its path. The hawk flew eastward over the trees and I did not relocate it. As Roger had posted earlier, both swans are still present, TUNDRA and TRUMPETER, a good sized flock of GREATER-WHITE FRONTED GEESE, NORTHERN HARRIERS, RED-TAILED HAWKS and 4 DUNLIN. I spent some time searching the fields to the east, and coming back to Pleasant Valley to see if I could relocate the hawk, but came up empty.
So I moved on towards Curtis looking for Shrike and Whtie-tailed Kite. Did not find either, but I did find a partial albinistic RED-TAILED HAWK at the intersection of Spooner Rd. and Pleasant Hill Rd. It was perched in a tree and then flew to a power pole. It had white on the forehead and mostly all white wings. A stunning bird when it flew.
Along Bunker Creek, a large flock of gulls produced MEW, HERRING, and RING-BILLED.
A lone SNOW GOOSE was seen along Airport Rd., another bird that Roger had seen last week.
