While I wouldn't even attempt to guess at the numbers, I am certain that bird extinctions have occurred prior to AD 1500 over the past few millennia as humans colonized various islands.? I'm particularly familiar with pre-European extinctions in the Hawaiian Island chain after they were initially settled by Polynesians some 1500+ years ago.??The same is certainly true in New Zealand and other islands throughout the Pacific.?
